On April 6, the Jewish community of Houston held a parade honoring Israel's 60th birthday.
There were over 1,400 participants cheering, celebrating and holding up Israeli and American flags. Marching groups from schools, youth groups, synagogues and organizations came together with floats, cars and signs.

Dr. Paul Bonicelli was named vice president for academic affairs April 22 after an eight-month search. President Sloan said the provost search committee was unanimous in their recommendation to name Bonicelli provost.

Entering the weekend series against Southern Miss, Houston remained in contention for the Conference USA regular-season title and a berth in an NCAA regional.
After being swept by the Golden Eagles in three games, however, chances of the Cougars winning the C-USA regular-season title are almost nonexistent.
