Students and faculty members will have the opportunity to participate in a 10-week program called the Lean Kat Club beginning Sept. 13.

The program will be held from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. every Thursday in Suite 104 of the Health and Kinesiology Center.

"The program is designed for faculty, staff and students, so the whole Bearkat community can benefit," said Mindy Oden, Recreational Sports assistant director. "The purpose of the program is for them to learn, through exercise and eating right, how to become more lean."

According to graduate assistant Dustin Joubert, the purpose of the program is to educate people on good eating habits and effective exercise.

"Talking in a group will give those who participate more motivation and keep them more disciplined," he said.

Oden said the program will instill lifelong principles using a series of lectures devoted to nutrition and exercises.

The program will also provide information about the health center itself.

"We want the exercises and nutrition taught to be used through life," she said. "The goal is not necessarily to lose weight, but to lose inches."

Oden said participants are allowed to bring lunch to each program and that they will have homework between each meeting.

The cost to participate in the program will be $30 for faculty members and $20 for students.

For more information, call Oden at (936) 294-1307.
